The last part of the build thread is servo installation.
This is the installation of the remaining control rods for the servos connection
to the control horns and the swashplate as well as screwing the servos
themselves into place.
I chose Hitec HS55 servos as they fit fairly flush within the T-Rex CDE.
I have to say that this part of the build was also the most disappointing
for me as the servos barely clear or actually rub on the canopy and the
whole servo tray felt like it was rushed and a bit of an after thought.
Considering how well the rest of the build is thought through and fits
together I feel my disappointment here is well justified.
First job is to screw the servos into place orientated the correct way
round and make up the last pushrods. The pictures below illustrate the
servo orientations, exactly the same as in the manual.
Having installed the servos, mount the servo horns shown below, screw on
the balls and connect up the ball links following the directions in the
manual. I tried several ways of doing this and concluded that the way shown
in the manual does give the least rubbing/binding on the canopy. The key
thing is to make sure that when the servo horns are vertical the control
horns that they connect to are also vertical. Adjust the pushrods lengths
to make sure this is achieved. See the picture with the red lines below
for an illustration of what I mean. Also below are several pictures showing
the servos and control horns.
That completes the main servo installation. Tail servo should be installed as per the manual instructions. Make sure that the pushrod to the tail runs completely straight and parallel to the tail boom with no adverse bends that could cause binding. The rest of the build comes under the heading 'setup'. This is covered in the setup section of the site, although at this time the CCPM setup instructions are not written, mainly due to the differences in setup depending on what radio system you are using. However, I would recommend reading through Nigel Fraser Ker's setup article in the setup section of the site as the majority of the information is relevant to a CDE T-Rex.
