| The struts are made from Delrin, which is a very high grade plastic that is durable and very flexible but virtually unbreakable. The struts can bent all the way to the ground without breaking. Unlike the stock molded skids, delrin has to be CNC machined. Although this set is about 3-4 times more expensive then the stock undercart, they should represent a cost savings in the long run due to their durability. The added benefit of delrin over aluminium or other very stiff metal skids is that they actually flex and will absorb some of the shock from a hard landing rather then transfer all that energy right to the frame. There is also no need to bend the skids back into shape as they will spring back into shape themselves. Installation took quite a bit longer then the 5 minutes I was expecting. The skids are a tight press fit into the delrin and the usual trick of heating the struts and freezing the skids didn't work as well as it does with a stock setup. The only area on improvement I've found is that there are no rubber grommets included with the set and since the skids are a smaller diameter then the Align, the grommets from your old skids will be to large to fit. I was told that you can drill out the holes to allow the use of the Align skids, but I do not have access to a drill press and it wouldn't be advisable to try this with a hand drill. These skids have 2 sets of mounting holes and should also fit the Shogun. You could mount them to a x400 as well, but you would have to drill holes in the bottom of the chassis and drill a new set of holes in the struts as well. This might be worth considering given the poor quality and durability of the stock x400 struts. |
